Razor wire preventing even the migration of deer

The fences erected at the borders, aimed at the refugees, have stopped even the ones who know of no borders.

The fences erected at the borders, aimed at stopping the refugee wave, have stopped even the ones who know of no borders. The natural migration of numerous wild animals has been prevented, such as herds of deer that have so far been able to move freely between Croatia and Hungary.

The touch of nature and humans, the razor wire in the branches, for the animals is especially rough and painful. Traces of deer in the mud are seen less and less.

Duboshevica, at the border between Croatia and Hungary, is where Pavo Damjanov has spent his entire life. It is not the first fence that the neighbours have erected, he recalls, but it is the first one that prevents the movement of animals.

Levee that could be easily jumped over

“One could jump over it. It was made in a way that a deer could jump over it, an earth levee to the top that one could cross. No traces of that today. I think that no one is an expert to say what exactly will happen now, because this is something new that us, hunters are not familiar with, and neither is the wild game”, Damjanov stated.

The government of Hungary considers that the issue is blown out of proportions.
