Child refugees and Unaccompanied minors on the move: the conditions, support and protection in Macedonia

On 20th and 21st of February, a workshop was organized by Save the Children mission in Macedonia on the topic “Child refugees and Unaccompanied minors on the move: the conditions, support and protection in Macedonia”.

During this two day event,  the current situation was presented by various stakeholders, working with vulnerable categories in the reception and transit centers and on the irregular route.   

Aleksandra Davidovska from LEGIS presented the mission of LEGIS in Lipkovo area with focus on the mapped risks that refugees face during irregular transit, such as kidnappings, money extortion, pushbacks and deportations, police violence etc.

Representatives from the governmental institutions such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy and the Crisis Management Center along with representatives from UN Agencies, such as UNHCR, UNICEF, UNFPA and IOM, and representatives from Red Cross and CSOs working on the current Crisis, LEGIS, OpenGate - LaStrada, MYLA and the First Children Embassy in the World – Megjashi, discussed solutions to the lack of protection to children, including UAMs in Macedonia, despite the existing regulations and procedures for protecting this vulnerable category.
