Legis at the Prime Minister’s Iftar Dinner

The president of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, threw an iftar dinner in honor of the Holy Month of Ramadan, for the President of Parliament, Talat Djaferi, the members of Parliament, for government members and advisors to the Prime minister, his collaborators, the mayors, believers of Islam, as well as the Grand Mufti of the Islamic Religious Community, Sulejman Redjepi.

As for representatives of the NGO sector, Legis was invited and represented by Mersiha Smailović, its president.

The prime minister welcomed the guests and in his speech highlighted that it was his honor to receive all of them at a time of fasting, when families and friends get together and spend time on self-reflection. Moreover, it is a time to have prayers for respect of others, for justice, progress, tolerance and dignity of all people.

“Fasting means refraining from earthly and bodily pleasures, something many faiths have in common, including mine, the Christian faith. When fasting, we strengthen our spirit in order to get closer to God. This act leads us to the fact that the changes we want to make must start in our hearts and communities.

That is what we teach children. On these days we take care of the sick and help everyone, regardless of their faith”, Zaev affirmed at the dinner.

The President of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, noted that the fasting helped the progress of our mutual wishes – live in peace and tranquility, open our hearts to joy in our families, and spread goodness and foster friendships.

“With each iftar of the Ramadan fasting we should reinforce and nourish our community, the Republic of Macedonia. One country, one family of different faiths living in harmony, continuing the tradition handed down to us by our forefathers”, concluded Zaev in his speech during the iftar dinner organised in honor of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
