In September 2016, Legis signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Preventive Mechanism functioning within the Ombudsman Office (NPM).

This official cooperation will allow experts from LEGIS to be incorporated in the so called Ombudsman+ mechanism.

The memorandum serves as legal basis for NGO experts to accompany the Ombudsman during his announced and unannounced visits to institutions in which refugees and migrants are being detained and/or accommodated (reception and asylum-seeker centers).

The goal of the Ombudsman+ mechanism is to provide recommendations to the relevant institutions regarding access to rights and torture prevention to refugees and migrants in detention and reception centers.
