Today (21.12.2022) by the National Unit for the Suppression of Migrant Smuggling and Trafficking in Human Beings, at the Department for Criminal Investigations, Department for Suppression of Organized and Serious Crime, in cooperation with the Department for Special and Special Operations, SVR Skopje, under the leadership of the Public Prosecutor from the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption, a coordinated police operation was conducted to suppress an organized criminal group involved in criminal acts of migrant smuggling.
The forensic investigation of the organized 13-member criminal group, which operated on the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia, was conducted from May 2022 to October 2022. Searches were carried out on 11 persons, in a total of 11 facilities located in the area of Skopje, and nine persons were detained (one of whom is employed as a police officer), two persons are being sought, while two persons-members of the criminal group have already been arrested, are serving prison terms in KPU Skopje and KPU Idrizovo, for previously committed crimes “smuggling migrants”. During the conducted searches, the following were found and confiscated: mobile telephone devices, SIM cards, passenger motor vehicles, money, weapons, payment slips from payments made through fast money transfer, etc.
